Andre Marie Ampere was born on January 20, 1775 in Lyon, France. Ampere’s father allowed his son to educate himself. That meant he can read whatever books he wanted, and do whatever he wanted. Surprisingly, it worked! When he was 13, Andre started reading math and physic books. When he was 14, the French Revolution began. During the war, his sister and father died. He abandoned his studies for a year because of his father’s death. Illiana
In the April of 1820, Hans Christian Oersted had discovered electromagnetism. Andre was so fascinated by Oersted’s work that he would try to figure out why an electric current produces a magnetic effect. In late September, He discovered something. He figured out if an electric current flows in the same direction in two nearby parallel wires, they repel. If the electric current flows in opposite directions, they repel each other. Illiana
He proved that the process of fermentation involves the action of living yeast. With no space left to do his research, he bought some attic space with his own money, leading to the discovery of a new living organism called the anaerobic microbe! After this, Pasteur developed the process called pasteurization, a process in which milk, wine, or beer is slightly heated to a temperature of 60-100 degrees celsius, killing microorganisms that can cause them to go bad.
